Optional Add-Ons

EDITING

Depending on your editing needs, we’re happy to help. Our editing team, who’ve spent decades in book publishing, edited thousands of books and written several of their own, can do any of three different edits.
The “Structure & Evaluation Edit” includes a full read and an editorial overview with global structure and overall manuscript evaluation notes.

The editor reads the manuscript through once, assessing structure, flow, completeness, and overall quality. The editor makes notes of all problems or areas of concern. Valid for manuscripts up to 50k words. Above 50k, add $100 per 5k words.

The “Flow & Content Edit” In addition to evaluating the structure, the editor reads and carefully edits the manuscript with an eye on the completeness, flow, and construction of ideas and stories, working paragraph by paragraph and chapter by chapter. Valid for manuscripts up to 50k words. Above 50k, add $600 per 5k words.

The “Complete Editing Package” (custom quote) In addition to reading the manuscript with an eye on the completeness, flow, and construction of ideas and stories, the editor will read each line and provide suggestions and edits on each line in the book.

For all three edits, we say that “we will hurt your feelings before we let you publish a bad book.” You will get a fair but an honest evaluation of your work and how it can improve so that you can have the best possible book.

AUDIOBOOK

Perigon Publishing can facilitate the creation and publication of an audiobook version of your book. The audiobook will be recorded by a voice actor at a professional studio and available for purchase on Audible.com, Amazon.com, and iTunes.

BOOK LAUNCH

We can work with you to create an end-to-end marketing campaign for your book.
“Perigon Publishing is making it easier than ever for entrepreneurs to take an idea and turn it into a book.”

1. Consultation call with your Publishing Manager

You will be paired with a Publishing Manager, who will be your main point of contact throughout all aspects of our process.

Once you’re ready to get started, you’ll consult with your Publishing Manager. Typically, this call will last about an hour, and you’ll answer questions like these:

Q. What are your goals for your book?
Q. Who is your audience?
Q. What do you envision your book cover will look like?
Q. What type of interior layout would you like for your book?

Your information will be assembled into what we call a “North Star” for your book, that will be used to guide all of the creative decisions throughout the process.

2. Manuscript Review

Once you submit your manuscript to your Publishing Manager, we’ll review it to ensure we have everything we need to get started:

•    Final locked title and subtitle
•    Final locked manuscript (including foreword, dedication, and acknowledgments if desired)
•    Any graphics, illustrations, or photos
•    Draft book description
•    Draft author biography
•    Author photo

We’ll review the manuscript looking for formatting issues, like misidentified chapter headings.

3. Cover Design

Everyone says that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but that’s not realistic. As an author, you should absolutely judge your book by its cover, because your audience will.

Cover design starts with a call with our Creative Director, specifically to discuss your book cover. She will help you refine your thinking and get clear on a few ideas for your cover.

The designers will then develop a series of cover designs. These will be initial concepts so that we can understand your direction more clearly.

We will schedule a phone call with you to review the designs and understand what you do and do not like about them. Based on your feedback, we’ll iterate on the design until we land on the perfect cover for your book.

Once you love the front cover design, your publishing team will create the spine and back, which includes your book description, author biography, and author photo, if you like

4. Copywriting & Proofreading

Back covers and book descriptions matter! A good book description and author bio are powerful tools. Our copywriting team will revise yours to maximize their marketing impact.

We will also proofread your manuscript to ensure there are no spelling or grammar errors.

5. Interior Layout Design

Please do not underestimate the importance of a great interior design. At Perigon Publishing we’ve seen many books with great manuscripts and amazing covers that suffered from a horrible interior. Your interior defines the reading experience for your audience.

As with the cover design process, we welcome your feedback on the interior you envision. Your book’s design can be modeled on any other book’s font choices or graphic styling—even the margins, page numbers, and sidebars, which will be blended by your designer with your book’s cover styling to create a cohesive reading experience from start to finish.

6. Final Review of All Content

Our promise to you is that we will never publish a book that you are not 100% satisfied with.

At this point, you will have already locked your content and your layout will be ready for final review.

We’ll share a PDF of your book’s interior, which will be exactly how your book will appear in print. You’ll be able to make adjustments to the layout, such as page breaks and graphic placement.

We will have a final review phone call where you sign off on everything before we move onto the next step of printing, publishing, and distribution.

7. Marketing Consult

Our Author Marketing team will get on the phone with you and help determine the exact best way you can ensure your book gets in front of the readers you want. We will help you lay out a step-by-step marketing plan that you can then execute.

8. Publishing and Distribution of Your Book

Your publishing team will work with you to determine your distribution goals and retail channels.
